On Dealing with Conflict

When dealing with conflict, there’s always at least one way of navigating it.

Around it

The first and most obvious approach to conflict is to avoid it.

If you avoid conflict you save energy, but you gain nothing.

This is the best way to handle conflict with a deranged lunatic on public transport or in a bar, if possible.

Through it

Another approach is to resolve it. Resolving a true conflict is never easy, it’s costly, at the very least, in terms of energy.

This is what you want to do when facing conflict with someone you care about or someone important to your business.

By resolving such conflicts, we have a chance of gaining gems. Yes, some conflicts can be beyond reasonable resolution, but most can be solved, assuming both parties are willing.

What are gems?

Gems are lessons, truths, and insights.

Whenever we engage in conflict resolution with an open mind, we might learn something that shifts our perspective. It could be something about ourselves, about the other person, or about the way the world works.

It’s never easy to have our beliefs challenged however it is a requirement if we are looking for growth.

It’s never easy to have our beliefs challenged, but it’s a necessary part of growth.

How did you approach a recent conflict in your life? Would you rather have dealt with it differently?
