Time to Review

It’s important to review.
Are you where you want to be?
Are you on track?
Are you heading in the right direction?

How often should we review?

I like to split my reviews into Tactical and Strategic

Tactical Reviews

Daily

Have you met the daily objectives?
Work, workout, read, write, meditate and floss?

Your daily tasks should align with your long-term goals.

Weekly

Did you connect with your family or friends?
Did you handle your weekly errands?

Monthly

A monthly review helps us stay accountable.
Did we follow through on our daily and weekly habits?

Some tasks only happen once a month, but they matter.
Paying vendors, filing taxes, irregular but essential for a healthy business.

Did you write what you said you would?
Did you implement the features you said you would?
Did you market your company like its life depended on it (because it does)?

Strategic Reviews

Quarterly

How about financials?

Even massive corporations can loose sight of what truly matters when they obsess over quarterly results.
We don't want to over-optimise for short-term gains, but we need to stay alert to patterns.

Lower revenue? Customer churn ticking up?
Note the signals. Watch closely in the next month or quarter.

Are your KPI's in the green?
Any areas for concern you need to address before the next review?

One month can be an anomaly.
Three in a row? That's likely a trend.

Annually

How was this year?
Did you accomplish what you hoped to accomplish?
Did you stick with the diet you set in January?

If not, maybe next year, you’ll be smarter about your approach.

Every Ten Years

A decade is a serious chunk of anyone’s life.
Scan the last ten years. Are you where you wanted to be, personally and professionally?
If not, maybe it’s time for a course adjustment.

Every Hundred Years

China famously thinks in centuries.
It’s an old culture, shaped by tradition and long-term strategy.
Very few companies make it to 100 years.
Even fewer people do.

This is about legacy.
What kind of mark do you want to leave behind?

Quo vadis?
